Start with the flat blank
Manufacturers estimate a flat sheet layout rather than using box volume. The blank size depends on the box style, joint allowances and trim.
Estimate weight
Board area multiplied by effective board GSM gives approximate paper weight. Fluted paper has extra length due to its wave profile, accounted for by flute take-up.
Build the selling quotation
Raw material cost is only one component. Converting, printing, wastage, tooling, taxes, freight, margin and minimum production quantities can all affect the final quoted price.
